English explorer Henry Hudson sailed into Delaware Bay in 1609. He was working for the Dutch East India Company. His reports on the region drew other explorers to the area. In 1614, Dutch explorer Cornelius Mey sailed into the Delaware River. Cornelius Hendricksen sailed up the Delaware to the Schuylkill River in 1616. Another Dutch explorer, Cornelius Jacobsen, explored the same Delaware River region in 1623.
